If you’re looking to make more money in your tutoring business, then friend, you’ve come to the right place. Over the past 3 years, I’ve grown a successful online tutoring business with multiple streams of income all while being a full-time teacher. If I can do it, so can you! Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you to take on more tutoring clients. My dream for you is to make more money while working less! Yes, you’ll need to put some systems and processes in place - something I teach extensively inside Tutorpreneur Academy®.

Multiple streams of income to build wealth

Your tutoring business will grow faster with multiple streams of income

Before I get too carried away, let’s dial it back a bit and talk about why your tutoring business needs multiple streams of income.  If your tutoring business is bringing in consistent revenue, great!  My hat is off to you.  Likely you’re using a tutoring contract to make sure that you’re getting paid on time and consistently.  If you’re in need of an editable contract template crafted by a lawyer, you’ll love this one. I highly recommend having a tutoring contract for each client because it helps set boundaries and ensures you get paid.   While tutoring is a great source of income, it’s also trading time for dollars.  Tutoring can absolutely be the bread and butter of your business but it’s smart and lucrative to start building multiple streams of income sooner rather than later.  The average millionaire has 7 streams of income!  You can read more about multiple streams of income in this blog post.

Consistent Blogging To Grow Your Business

Okay, so ya’ll know I’m a big fan of blogging for a variety of reasons. Blogging is a long game so you have to treat it like one. Creating consistent blogs every month will increase your reach. It takes a bit to get the hang of blogging, that’s why I spend quite a few lessons on it inside of Tutorpreneur Academy®. If I go back and look at some of my first blog posts, I feel cringy. But hey, that’s how we grow! Blogging is a relatively inexpensive way to talk about your business in an organic way that solves problems for your ideal customer. Depending on the platform you go with, starting a blog can even be free. I recommend using Squarespace or Kajabi. Kajabi’s platform has everything you need to grow your business. When I was first starting out, I went with Squarespace and while it’s great, I use Kajabi for my online courses. You can host your website through Kajabi and your blog! Brainstorm a list of blog post topics you could write about and write your first blog post today. The only way blogging will start bringing in consistent revenue for you is to start doing it. It can be easy to feel discouraged about blogging when you don’t see success immediately. That’s why I continually tell my students its a long game. One thing you can do to create blog posts that people are actually searching for is to use keyword research. I teach SEO hacks inside Tutorpreneur Academy® and From Zero To Cha-Ching. The right SEO keywords can take your blog post from hidden to seen in no time.

Sell Your Teaching Resources Online

Nothing tickles me more than when I’m out for a walk with my Pomeranian, Woobie, and I hear the cha-ching from a Teachers Pay Teachers sale on my Apple Watch.  If you’re already selling on TPT, can you relate?  I bet you’ve already created some resources for your classroom or your tutoring business and the only thing missing is SELLING THEM!  You don’t have to be techy to start selling your resources.  I’ve made it super simple in my course From Zero To Cha-Ching (Creating Resources That Sell) to take all the guesswork out for you.  One of the great things about having Squarespace account is that you can also sell your teaching resources online through your website in addition to Teachers Pay Teachers

Create passive income for your tutoring business

Imagine having multiple places to sell the same thing that brings in passive income while you’re on vacation with your family.  What would it feel like to be able to finally pay your car off or send your kiddo to summer camp?  The best part?  You can blog about your products and how they solve problems for your ideal customer.  It’s a win-win!  Instagram now has shopping on their platform so selling your teaching resources on social media just go a whole lot easier.  Start slow when creating your resources so you can optimize your products and not feel overwhelmed.  When I was learning how to create my own teaching resources I was overwhelmed and that lead to burnout.  I created From Zero To Cha-Ching to make the lessons simple with actionable takeaways that don’t overwhelm you and instead inspired you to take action.  See if the course is a good fit for you here!

Create An Online Course

Ok, hear me out.  This used to scare me too.  I had no idea what I was doing.  There are lots of ways to get started, but again, Kajabi hands down takes the cake because they have everything on their platform.  I’ve created several online courses for teachers and tutors just like you.  This year, I created a handwriting course for one of my tutoring clients.  I did a beta test first and was ready to launch it after that.  Inside the course, the student gets all of my handwriting worksheets that I sell on TpT as an added bonus.  Creating a course that combines a teaching resource that you sell is a smart move.  Many of my tutoring clients have requested extra handwriting practice so the idea was born from necessity.  I also use the handwriting worksheets in my first grade classroom.  After a long time of virtual learning, I found it was a great product and very much needed with our kids today.  The great part of owning your own tutoring business or even being a classroom teacher is that you have kids to try stuff out on first.  If the kids love an activity, it’s a hit.  If you see your students struggling with the same concepts over and over, then creating an online course and resources for their problems is a good solution.

I’m not recommending that you start with all three ways at once. Definitely focus on one thing at a time. If I had to choose which idea to start with, I would tell you blogging. You already have a ton of great ideas swirling around in your head. I know, because I’ve been there. The overwhelming feeling you’re experiencing comes from not putting those good ideas to work! One of the best things you can do right now is grab a notebook and your favorite pen and write them all down. I’ve heard this referred to a brain dump and it really works. Once you have all your ideas down, you’ll notice patterns and trends. Start grouping the similar ideas together and soon you’ll have a month’s worth of ideas for your soon to be live blog.
