Sell Your Services Online | How to Generate Blog Ideas

Sell your services with your blog

When you’re first starting out, thinking of blog post ideas can leave you feeling stuck.  Even if you’re a seasoned blogger, there’s going to be times when you have a brain block thinking of new ideas.

One way to kiss the overwhelm goodbye is to focus on one topic for each blog post.  Solving one problem for your ideal customer each time will keep your blog streamlined and focused.  Many newbie bloggers make the mistake of writing a journal entry.

Focus on one blog topic at a time

Focus on one blog topic at a time

Start a Google doc of all the questions you get asked from parents, on social media or from product reviews on Teachers Pay Teachers. Good questions turn into great content. Don’t underestimate the power of a frequently asked question. In fact, you’ll start noticing similarities in questions and those questions can turn into multiple blog posts and social media posts.

Soft sell your services and products on your blog

Write blog posts to soft sell services, products, and resources

When you first started your business, you might have felt like you were being salesy if you came right out and talked about your products.  I felt the same way and finally realized that if I wasn’t talking about my products and services, then no one else would.  There’s some skill behind doing it the right way and doing the wrong way.  Of course, saying “Buy my product!” is tacky, so let’s discuss some ways for you to discuss your products as the solution to your idea customer’s problems.  Let’s say you’ve gotten some great feedback on a kindergarten sight word product in your Teachers Pay Teachers store.  Maybe one of the reviews stated: “Wow, this product finally helped my kindergartners learn their sight words and retain them!”  Your next step would be to research keywords to write a blog post about kindergarten sight words.  Once you have a SEO (search engine optimized) title, you can start explaining the problem and providing the solution which would be your product!  I teach this whole process inside Tutorpreneur Academy® so you can learn how to blog with ease and grow the passive income side of your tutoring business.

Break down your methods into bite sized pieces

Break down your methods into bite sized pieces

Break down your methods / content into smaller posts

There’s something unique about the way you teach a concept or how you tutor your students.  Breaking down your method is a great way to take a huge concept into bite size chunks.  This also means you’re able to go deeper into a concept and keep each blog post focused so it’s solving one problem.  One of the best ways you can do this is by brain dumping all the ideas swirling around in your head.  A lot of times the overwhelm we feel when creating content comes from having too many ideas we’re trying to keep track of.  Once you have a big list of ideas, put them into categories that are similar.  From there, you’ll notice content themes emerge and can easily map out an entire month without breaking a sweat.

Use FAQ to come up with content ideas

Look at FAQ

I mentioned this before, but it’s such a great way to get good ideas for your blog.  If someone has a question, then likely other people have the same questions.  Not only can you get great content ideas for your blog, but you can also get ideas for TpT products for your store or website.  Think about the questions parents ask you when signing up for your tutoring services.  You can also think about questions parents ask during parent teacher conferences.  The longer you’ve been a tutor or a teacher, you start to notice patterns in the questions people ask, especially if you’re staying inside your tutoring niche or the same grade level as a teacher.

Use a teaching resource to solve problems for your audience

Use a teaching resource and show your audience how it solves a problem

Using a resource to tell your audience explicitly how it solves a problem is a great way to talk about your products without being salesy.  Great companies do massive amounts of advertising and once you start thinking about your blog as a way to advertise for your products and services, your sales will start to increase.  Of course, having a plan in place for blogging will help this as well, which is why there are many dedicated lessons to blogging inside Tutorpreneur Academy®.  If you’re having a hard time deciding on what to write about, go back to the product you want to talk about and think about why you created it.  Maybe you noticed your third graders were having a hard time with math facts fluency, so you came up with a math facts game that helped them learn their facts quickly.

Starting thinking of SEO as your business' best friend

Starting thinking of SEO as your business' best friend

SEO is your best friend

Start thinking of SEO (search engine optimization) as your best friend.  When we make titles that people are searching for, you have a hirer chance of your content being seen by your ideal customer.  Use Google, YouTube, Pinterest and other search engine sites to come up with titles that will be more likely to be seen.  Don’t overlook this part of the blogging process because it’s one of the most important parts. I teach this whole process inside all of my programs!

Stop overthinking creating blog posts and just start writing.  If you’re stuck on ideas, make a list, check your FAQ and look at the products you have already created.  There’s great content inside all of these places waiting to get out.
